SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — The ingredient supplier Comet said consumer interest in “biotics” is rising, with 76% of consumers recognizing the link between gut health and overall wellness. Comet’s 2025 trend predictions identified the top three biotic opportunities that will affect new wellness product growth for the food, beverage and supplement categories in 2025.
Comet’s three trends include gut microbiome benefits extending beyond digestive health, exploring microbiomes (biomes) that exist outside of the gut, and scientific validity and prebiotic diversification.
“Our research shows that consumers are smarter than ever about the microbiome,” said Loula Merkel, chief executive officer of Comet. “They are curious about more than the gut microbiome and benefits beyond the gut, while also scrutinizing the science behind claims. We encourage brands to lean into these trends with products that respond directly to consumer search and interest. This is an exciting time, and our Arrabina prebiotic can help customers take advantage of these consumer trends.”
Gut microbiome benefits beyond digestive health found that consumer research shows gut health is a factor in the wellness space, according to Comet. Biotic benefits extending beyond the gut include metabolic health, women’s health, immune health, cognition and mood, according to the research.
Exploring microbiomes that exist outside of the gut found consumers are discovering how biotics may support other living biomes within the body, including oral, skin and vaginal biomes, Comet said.Comet’s No. 3 prediction includes scientific validity, prebiotic diversification and full transparency, which saw consumers valuing prebiotic diversity, sound science and ingredient transparency.
