All Things Arrabina®

Arrabina is a prebiotic dietary fiber produced for use in applications such as beverages, bars, baked goods, supplements and more.

Arrabina benefits the microbiome by feeding the good bacteria that exist in the gut, allowing them to grow and thrive. The microbiome contains good and bad bacteria. If you help the good bacteria grow, there will be less room for the bad.

Arrabina is different because it has a unique product composition. It supplies gut health benefits at a low dose of less than four grams per day. It is also well-tolerated and gentle on the gut. It supplies prebiotic fiber benefits without the unwanted bloating or discomfort often associated with other fibers.

Arrabina promotes the growth of diverse beneficial bacteria, including Bifidobacteria, Prevoltellaceae and Acidaminococcus-ceae, among others

Arrabina is FODMAP Friendly, Gluten-Free, Glyphosate Residue Free, Kosher, Upcycled CertifiedTM, NutraStrong TM Prebiotic Verified, and Non-GMO Project Verified.

We go above and beyond when it comes to third-party testing because we believe consumers deserve to know what they are putting in their bodies. Third-party testing helps ensure our products comply with regulations and guidelines for heavy metals, microbes, and major allergens and assures the quality and safety of our products.

We also have completed prolonged stability and shelf life at various time points. Unlike other prebiotic fibers, Arrabina has consistent potency results under room temperature and even extreme manufacturing conditions, including retort and pasteurization.

Arrabina will not cause GI distress including bloating, even at 15 grams a day. You can read our clinical results here. It is also gluten free and FODMAP friendly.
Arrabina comes from upcycled wheat stalks. Gluten comes from the wheat grain NOT the stalk. But just to make sure, we use independent labs to test at different points of production.

Our Process & Sustainability

Upcycling means that we take wheat stalks that are left over after harvest and extract nutritional value out of them to make Arrabina. This enables farmers to utilize their whole harvest and create our product without having to use any additional land.
To extract the fiber from the wheat stalks, we have a patented process that uses steam, pressure, and filtration. After the product is filtered, we dry the fiber into a powder.
Our patented production process upcycles crop leftovers and turns them into high-quality ingredients. The proprietary extraction process is innovative and differentiates us from other ingredient manufacturers. This simple yet hard to replicate, process uses only steam, water and pressure for extraction. We ensure high product quality by partnering with farmers to source non-GMO crop leftovers.  These partnerships benefit farmers and food companies by allowing them to profit from the entire harvest and reduce waste.
At COMET, sustainability is not just a commitment; it’s a core value. We undertook a comprehensive assessment with Planet FWD, a leader in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) industry, to measure the complete cradle-to-gate life cycle carbon emissions of our ingredient Arrabina®. This study compared Arrabina to chicory root-based inulin and other similar dietary fibers. The LCA results highlight the efficacy of our sustainable practices and the significantly reduced carbon footprint of upcycled ingredients like Arrabina. As a young company dedicated to sustainability, we recognize the importance of establishing solid metrics to compare our environmental impact within the industry. This LCA report validates its positive impact on the planet’s health.
We are proud to be members of the Upcycled Foods Association and support the organization’s development of transparent third-party validation of product sustainability claims. To achieve real industry change, there must be third party verification of products’ sustainability from a trusted and credible source. The Upcycled Foods Association’s rigorous standards allow manufacturers and consumers to be confident in products’ ability to combat food waste.

The Microbiome & Biotics

Simply put, prebiotics are food for the good bacteria that live in the gut. More specifically, prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon.
Probiotics are good bacteria that fight off bad bacteria in the gut and help establish a healthy microbiome. Prebiotics are dietary fibers often found in grains, vegetables, and fruits. These are non-digestible carbohydrates that feed the probiotics already existing in the gut and optimize their growth and functions. It’s important to note there is an array of probiotic strains as well as many prebiotic dietary fibers, and when it comes to gut health, it is not a one size fits all formula. This means some probiotics work better with specific prebiotics and vice versa.
Prebiotics arrive in the colon mostly undigested because our human digestive enzymes don’t break down these fibers. Next, the good bacteria in the colon ferment these prebiotic fibers and convert them into short-chain fatty acids. Short-chain fatty acids are associated with many health benefits and can help with immune system regulation, inflammation, and much more.
